| | You've spelt the name of the college wrong! it's LONGLEY! The top tower (the highest point in the photograph) is supposed to be haunted. It is still on the college grounds. |
| | Thanks for noticing the spelling, not my strong point I am afraid. |
| | Yep. It was my old school and the skyline certainly doesn't seem the same any more since the Beautiful Old Building disappeared!!!! I agree it wasn't the best equipped school in the world but Boy did it have some tradition and character. Not like the monstrosity that's on the site today. Spike will be turning in his grave..... |

| | It too was my school from 1993-1998 I remember the tower supposedly being haunted and reports of a womans face appearing from time to time in the window of the tower pictured above (the funny shaped one to the right of the chimney top) She was nicknamed as the grey lady. Previously know as the maid who cleaned the building back when it belonged to the wealthy booth family in 18 o'blob. She was apparently found to be sleeping with the lord of the manor and when his wife found out, threw herself from the tower. We used to have sleep overs up there in the tower with a few select pupils and teachers but unfortunatley our year never got to participate (think we were too unruley) The basement was also said to be haunted which we got to investegate one afternoon with the caretaker. (only scarey thing we found though were lots of creepy spiders) The caretakers said to be frightenend when alone after school hours as they had seen the grey lady roaming and heard strange noises. Furniture would move and lights would go on and off on their own accord. I like to believe this story is true although I have no evidence. There is a book which offers some very interesting history on the booth family and the story of what happened there. |

| | It was my school from 79 -83.I will always remember it with affection and the new college will never do anything but make my blood boil at how the Council demolished it with a timid excuse of it being unsafe. The ghost was a big topic around school and I will never forget if I live to be a hundred the sweet smell of lavender hitting our noses on a monday morning when we filed into our classroom in the wing of the building(nowhere near the tower). The woman was said to have been a maid to the booth family who resided in the house many years ago.She is said to have carried lavender around with her.The funny thing was that in the afternoons the smell would not be there at all.I do believe as other postings have said ,that she did indeed commit suicide and her ghost still hangs around smelling of lavender.Another interesting point was that the North building was haunted too by a ghost that shouted all the time for a woman named Maureen.I know this because my mother was a cleaner at North and she was always hearing her. |

| | I graduated from Firth Park Brushes in 1976 and was shocked to see it gone. I emigrated to Canada in 1984 and fondly remember the horror stories that Spike used to tell us. |
| | This was my school also, during the 90's.Iremember everybody talking about the grey lady.I was very fond of this school.I enjoyed going there a lot. It's a massive shame that it is now gone, but the memories will still remain with all that went to that school to work and learn. And may the memories that are known from years past still remain from before it was a school also. This was truly a great memoriable building and a great loss of history i guess. But will still remain in all history books it was written about. |
| | I also went to this school and left in 1976.
I am amazed that this being demolished should ever have been allowed to happen as I was under the impression it was a Grade 2 building. What a shame such character can just be shoved away.
So many stories but are they true....Loved it there |

I am currently compling a guide to all the large houses of Yorkshire and am writing to ask if I might use your photograph of the Brushes, with appropriate acknowledgement. It would appear with a short piece of historical and descriptive text.
Many thanks and very best wishes
