| | Just found this site.I am a Sheffield girl now living in Somerset. In 1966 I went to work at the Midland Bank on the corner of Albert Terrace Rd and Infirmary Rd.When the Kelvin flats were built we had a new branch incorporated into the ground floor just behind the original bank.Mr Gillam was bank manager, followed by Mr Hickman.Mr & Mrs Sorsby who were the caretakers at the bank moved into one of the flats. Their son Alan had a florists shop just down Infirmary Rd.Lots of happy memories there,especially going across the road at lunchtime to Barkers (on the opposite corner to Blanchards) for a"tomato-dip" bread cake 6d or chips and beans in a paper tray 1/-. Does anyone out there have a photo of the old of the new bank.
I left Sheffield in 1974 and moved to Somerset. |

| | Just found this site.Moved onto kelvin in 1970.152 kelvin walk.Brilliant place to live then.A brand new flat with central heating and all that vast space outside to play.I was 10 at the time and have nothing but happy memories.Bimmer,kevin Hall,Gary Pettigrew,Zahid Hamid,Danny,JulieBlagdon are some names i remember.Elsoms used to live in the George pub opposite.Moved to Somerset in 1975 and still here. |
