House on Leppings Lane

Summary:
Here is my grandfathers house, 42 Leppings Lane, I was brought up here from the age of 8, and believed the name of the house was Peartree Farm, as the large tree you can see here in front of it was a pear tree, it was only a few years ago that I discovered the real name of it was" The ForgeMasters House."

I would imagine that sometime in the past it must have belonged to the old forge at the back of it, which you can see on one of your other old photo's on here, and by the way, was worked from a large waterwheel, I don't know if many people realise that! or if there are any people who still remember it working??
It was owned by two brothers, Allen, was their surname if I remember rightly.
So their family might have owned my grandfathers house, because just before his death we found out that he didn't own the property at all, he rented it!
In front of the house my grandfather had a very large garden, he grew lots of veg and flowers there, also there was a stable block, which housed 3 horses that used to go out daily pulling a cart on rounds selling fruit and veg.
At the back of the stable block he had a scrap yard, full of old lorries and cars, that people came and bought bits as spares parts.
Also above the stables he had kennels for dogs, which were kept absolutely pristine, and during the summer they were always full while their owners went away on holiday.
If there is anyone out there who remembers us at the house, I would love to hear from you. My grandfathers name was Arthur Revitt, and my maiden name was Mary Glossop.
Sadly this photo was taken sometime after my grandfather had died and it had been bought by Bramall's, and was being used for making and selling concrete garages and coal bunkers, the garden had been filled in,the wall knocked down and the stables were converted to make these concrete sectional garages and coal bunkers.
Now I believe it is owned by the CO-OP, where the milkmen go to get their milk!and where the old forge used to stand it is a large garage and coach station owned by Law bros.?? or it was the last time I was in Sheffield.
